Celebrating his 3rd year on site in May, Kevin Akitt is one of Sturgeon Refinery’s longest active members. Working on site for Taurus as a Carpenter GF, Kevin was a part of setting up the very first trailers. “When I first arrived, there were still trees on the site,” he says about how things have changed out here.Kevin is a farm boy from Waterton Park, and in 2000 moved to the Lamont area where he follows his family tradition, farming 300 acres of land with his wife and 5 children. He believes that production and safety go hand in hand: “Plan the Work and Work the Plan. I’ve learnt you can do outstanding work, safely, and still be productive if you plan your work ahead of time.” When asked what he thought made Sturgeon Refinery a Great Site he said that is the opportunities that have been given to him for growth and development. Kevin’s entire crew was invited to be part of a group of only 300 selected in Canada to attend a conference in Las Vegas at the Carpenters International Training Center. “I am very proud of my crew!” boasts Kevin.
