NWR is committed to safety and emergency preparedness. This includes training exercises for employees and the Emergency Operations Centre response team in case of an incident on, or nearby the Sturgeon Refinery. These exercises also test our plans and emergency equipment to ensure they function properly.
On Tuesday, October 30 from approximately 10 am – 2 pm, we are conducting an emergency training exercise. The exercise will be facilitated by NWR’s Emergency Operations Centre response team and involve external agencies and emergency services.
The exercise will involve sounding local unit alarms. In the case of this training exercise, no action is necessary by individuals who are nearby or travelling past the Sturgeon Refinery site and hear the alarms. Emergency response vehicles and personnel will also be active during the exercise. Again, no action is necessary by individuals not involved in the exercise in response to seeing these emergency training activities.
If you have any questions about the exercise before or while it is taking place, please call the 24/7 UPDATEline at 1-866-653-9959 for information.
Being prepared for all types of incidents – industrial, collision on nearby highway, weather, wildfire – is a key part of refinery operations. Training exercises help ensure that all employees and contractors know their role in maintaining a safe and prepared worksite.
