EDMONTON – June 20, 2016 – This past weekend, approximately 3,400 workers engaged in the construction of the North West Redwater (NWR) Sturgeon Refinery and their family members gathered near the Sturgeon Refinery, currently under construction near Redwater, Alberta, to enjoy a family day barbeque. The event was funded by NWR, with 100 per cent of the nominal admission fee contributed to the Bon Accord/Gibbons and Redwater Food Banks, with $15,000 in ticket sale proceeds being contributed to local Sturgeon County communities impacted by the downturn in the Alberta economy.
“These workers and their families are paramount to the success of our operations and this event was about celebrating their hard work and commitment to the Sturgeon Refinery and the positive impact it will have on the province and our country,” said Doug Bertsch, VP of Regulatory and Stakeholder Affairs for NWR. “Supporting Alberta communities that surround the Refinery is also a top priority for NWR, and this celebration gave us an opportunity to give back to them in a tangible, meaningful way.”
Guests at the NWR family day event enjoyed sharing the fruits of their labour in the company of colleagues and family on NWR land adjacent to the refinery site. The event offered bus tours of the refinery, children’s activities, including a magician and face painting, a photo booth, barbeque and much more.
NWR publicly announced at the event an additional $25,000 contribution to the Red Cross fund assisting with Fort McMurray fire relief efforts.
